Commodore Md Minarul Hoque, (H), OSP, BCGM, psc, BN joined the Bangladesh Navy as an officer cadet on 01 January 1991 and was commissioned into the Executive Branch on 01 July 1993. Over an illustrious career spanning more than 34 years, he has received extensive training at both national and international levels. Commodore Md Minarul Hoque is a distinguished naval officer and Oceanographer with a broad and accomplished career in Hydrography & Oceanography, Maritime Research, and Leadership. He has commanded all classes of hydrographic ships in the Bangladesh Navy, including BNS ANUSHANDHAN (Ex HMS ROEBUCK), and held key roles such as Officer-in-Charge of Bangladesh Navy Hydrographic & Oceanographic Centre (BNHOC), Chief Hydrographer at Chittagong Port Authority, Commanding Officer, BNS MONGLA, and Director of Hydrography and Blue Economy at Naval Headquarters. Beyond naval duties, he served as Zonal Commander (West) of the Bangladesh Coast Guard. Commodore Minar has dynamically participated in numerous national and international hydrographic and oceanographic events, team up with academic and research institutions for the advancement of modern ocean technologies. His academic leadership includes serving as Director General of Bangladesh Institute of Maritime Research and Development (BIMRAD) the only research institute under the Bangladesh Navy, Director of Institute of Bay of Bengal and Bangladesh Studies (IBBBS), and Dean of Faculty of Earth and Ocean Science (FEOS) at Bangladesh Maritime University. His affiliations with multiple research organizations have fostered close collaboration with academia. At present, he holds the position of Director General at the Bangladesh Oceanographic Research Institute (BORI), where he actively leads and supports the advancement of marine science and oceanographic research through his expertise and scholarly efforts.
